The Hydrokompenser is the original automatic balance system, designed for high-speed
applications. The system is now manufactured in the U.S.
Individual grinding wheels or grinding wheel assemblies can be balanced fully
automatically, and under operational conditions, with high reliability and accuracy.
Our new SB-4500 control is now a part of the Hydrokompenser system, allowing even
greater speed, accuracy and ease of use. This is the same control system used
by our SBS mechanical balancer product line, so users of both systems can now
standardize on one interface, and even configure the control to operate both types
of balancers from one unit. With the standard CNC interface, the system can be
connected with any machine controller.

| Figure 1 |
The Hydrokompenser system uses machine coolant, water, or other available fluids
to perform balancing. A four-chamber balance container is integrated into the
wheel carrier or flange of the rotating grinding wheel to allow for injection
of the correction medium. To achieve balance, a compensation counterweight (K)
is produced by addition of fluid to the chambered container, as shown in figure
1. The two resulting component vectors (V1) and (V2) comprise the counterweight
(K), so that the imbalance (u) of the wheel assembly is offset.

The balance containers are available in open or closed design. Storage of the
fluid balance medium in a closed design allows the machine to retain balance at
shutdown, while the open system offers economic advantages for production machines.
The balance container is not subjected to wear and requires very minimal maintenance.
Calculation of pre-balance is also a feature offered by the system. The computer
control allows the user to easily and quickly add or position mechanical balance
weights on the grinder, to roughly balance the wheel, and then rely on the hydro
system for fine balancing.
